2nd Annual Denny-Lincoln Classic: Fun for Everyone
The Second Annual Denny-Lincoln Classic took place on Saturday May 31st to culminate “Bike to School Month.” Around 35 students and 15 adults came out to ride the streets of West Seattle and BBQ at Lincoln Park. Theresa and Jason Beaulieu along with Seattle Parks’ Will King organized the event.
Abandoned bikes were procured from Metro to donate to kids. Staff and PTSA members dedicated time after school to repair bikes and make them ready to ride. On that warm day even neighbors came out to fill water bottles and quench the students thirst. The Denny-Lincoln Classic is bound to stay and be a great Denny tradition.

Art Show at SAM featuring Denny Artists
Since March, artwork by students from Denny and Chief Sealth International have been featured in the annual Naramore Seattle Public Schools Middle and High School Art Show at the Seattle Art Museum (SAM). Friday night marked the awards ceremony that brought out Congressman Jim McDermott and Seattle's Superintendent Jose Banda. District leaders such as Willie Seals, from the Department of School and Community Partnerships, admired the work of Denny artist taught by Pamela Neithercott. While Sealth's art teacher, Carolyn Autenrieth, captured a small audience describing the assignment and process that led to her student's second place win in the technical category. The 2014 Naramore show will continue to be on display until May 25th at SAM from 9am-5pm in the first floor corridor.

Washington Chinese Language & Talent Competition
It was a real honor to host the 4th Annual Washington State Chinese Language and Talent Competition on the Denny/Sealth campus on Sunday. This impressive event was organized by the Cultural Exploration of Greater China Foundation and three other state-wide partners.
The event was a statewide scholastic competition showcasing K-12 Chinese language and culture learners. This year, 506 contestants representing 145 different public and private schools, Chinese heritage institutions and home tutoring programs signed up to compete with 746 entries in 349 events. Thirty-one Denny and Sealth scholars participated, representing our schools very well! A big thank you to our three Chinese teachers, Ms. Wang, Ms. Lin, and Ms. Zhang, for all that they do for our scholars every day and for volunteering to help make this prestigious event a big success! Soul Jambalaya Another Success
Denny International Middle School hosted a fantastic event, “Soul Jambalaya”, a concert celebrating Black History Month and the rich heritage of gospel, blues, jazz, and funk music. Student and professional musicians gathered together in our auditorium to perform arrangements from all of these musical genres. Featured artists included the Total Experience Gospel Choir, Westside Blues, Figgins and Halbert Jazz and our very own Denny International Middle School Jazz Band. The music was fantastic--those who made it, despite the snow, were rewarded by inspiring performances. Congratulations to the Denny Jazz Band musicians and to Mr. Pimpleton, our amazing band director! Thank you to all of the musicians who performed and all who joined us!
