Global Issues Network Conference
On Friday, March 6, and Saturday, March 7, Denny International Middle School scholars did a fantastic job presenting and participating at the Global Issues Network Conference hosted by Chief Sealth International High School. This conference brought together over 170 scholars from as far away as Haiti to learn about global issues from each other and guest speakers. The participants committed to taking action to better our local community and world.
I am very proud of the five teams representing Denny—their presentations were informative, interactive, and compelling—congratulations to the Dolphin presenters! A huge thank you to the Denny staff who coached our scholars and contributed in so many ways to making this happen for them: Ms. Evans, Ms. Choi, Mr. B. Evans, Ms. Kelleher, Ms. Clausen, and Ms. Olsen! A special note of thanks and congratulations to Mr. Zeichner, the Sealth scholar Ambassadors, and Sealth staff for hosting such a successful and inspiring event on our campus!

Denny and Sealth Celebrate Black History Month with Soul Jambalaya Concert
The Denny/Sealth auditorium was filled with jazz, blues, funk, and gospel music as we celebrated Black History month. Both the Denny and Sealth Jazz bands played terrifically well, along with special guests Septimus and the Total Experience Gospel Choir. Congratulations to our phenomenal music director, Mr. Pimpleton, for pulling off such a special night of music once again.

The Career Guidance Award of Excellence recognizes middle and high schools that operate highly effective, inclusive guidance and counselling programs. These award-winning schools take advantage of resources available through Career Guidance WA to maintain high standards and a clear process for college and career readiness. Their goal: every student ready for career, college and life.
A Slam Dunk for Basketball Every Saturday
This year, every Saturday we have hosted basketball games—four different teams represent Denny and we are also a host site for all of the southend middle schools. Thank you to Mr. Rodriguez for leading it all; to our coaches, Mr. Rushin, Mr. Lane, and Mr. Espinosa; and to our team that makes hosting all of these games possible Mr. Lai, Mr. Russell, Mr. Hoskins, Mr. Baker, and others. THANK YOU ALL!
Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra's Super Strings Saturday
We celebrated our partnership with the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra with the annual event Super Stings Saturday. Denny musicians and elementary scholars joined us for a concert and workshops. Thank you Mr. Morales for your part in making this great event happen. Seattle Councilmember Tim Rasmussen joined us to support the program.

A Toe Tapping Concert
Congratulations to all of the Denny and Sealth band and jazz band musicians on an outstanding concert last! Thank you to our terrific teachers, Mr. Pimpleton and Ms. Chutich, for all of their amazing efforts with our scholars. Thank you also to the Denny Sealth Performing Arts volunteers and to all of our families for supporting great music in our pathway!

Another Year of Academic Achievements for Denny Students
Denny-Sealth Strings & Mariachi Concert
The Denny and Sealth communities enjoyed a fantastic concert featuring Sealth Mariachi; Denny Beginning, Junior, and Senior Orchestras; and the Sealth Orchestra! The event was a terrific showcase of the progression of music developmentally from 6th to 12thgrade.
Congratulations to all of the Denny and Sealth musicians on an outstanding concert—we are all proud of you! Thank you to Mr. Jorge Morales, our dedicated teacher, to the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra for their on-going partnership, and to all of the parent volunteers who support our Mariachi and Orchestra programs! Go Dolphins and Seahawks!

Mr Moor is the Symetra Seattle Seahawks Hero in the Classroom!
Today, December 17th, it was an honor to be a part of presenting Denny 8th Grade Math Teacher, Mr. Jon Moor, with the Symetra Seattle Seahawks Heroes in the Classroom Award! During second period, we had special guests at school, including Mr. Moor’s wife and two sons, as we surprised him with a short presentation as the winner. Mr. Moor was nominated for this award by his 8th grade math teaching colleague Ms. Schulte. Along with special recognition at an upcoming Seahawks game, the award includes a $1,000 donation to the school!

Way to Go Lady Dolphins Soccer Players!
The Denny Girls Soccer team won their final game on Saturday, 1 to 0 against Jane Addams Middle School. Thank you to our excellent coaches: Ms. Choi, Mr. Garcia, Mr. Lai, and Mr. Espinoza, and to our terrific Athletic Director, Mr. Rodriguez, for all they’ve done to support our scholars this season! Go Dolphins!
Posada 2014 - a Season to Celebrate!
On Friday evening, December 12th, Denny International Middle School hosted our annual Posada celebration. The evening was filled with great food, dancing, and fun! Thank you to all of the families and staff who came to make this such a culturally-rich and memorable time!
A special thank you to all of our volunteers, including: Ms. Salcedo, Ms. Amaral, Ms. Olsen, Mr. Garica, Ms. Brown, Ms. Bowie, Ms. Rangel, Mr. Rodriguez, Manu, Sheila, Kevin, Sommer, all of the Proyecto Saber scholars, Mirabella and the Chief Sealth dancers, and the one and only DJ Vagos!

Denny Bookfair Kick off at B&N a Success!
The Denny event at Barnes and Noble was great! The music, scholar writing, and overall support for our school was terrific!
Thank you to our fabulous volunteer leader, Ms. Sipila, for all of her efforts, to Mr. Morales for bringing scholars to perform, to Mr. Slingsby and Ms. Evans for organizing scholars to read their writing, to Ms. Nestor for helping to lead all of the details with staff, and to all of the families and staff who attended to support our school! Go Dolphins!
Roxhill Park Longfellow Creek Clean Up
Thank you to our Dolphin Scholars, Ms. Garcia and Mr. Evans for helping our community by removing invasive plant species from the Longfellow Creek Bog in Roxhill Park on Saturday! This community service project is part of an exciting multidisciplinary unit on storm water and the inter-connectivity of water in our local ecosystem. We are proud of you for the great job you did helping our community!

Fun at the Fiestas Patrias Parade
The Denny Dolphins did an excellent job representing their school in the Fiestas Patrias parade on Saturday in South Park!
Eighth-grader, Carmela Pedraza Sanchez did an outstanding job showing his positive leadership by leading the chants and demonstrating our school pride. Thank you to our terrific Proyecto Saber team, Ms. Olsen, Mr. Garcia, and Ms. Bowie for coordinating the event and to Ms. Rangel and Mr. Rodriguez for their help.
Additionally, it was an honor to march next to the Concord Cougars as they proclaimed that they were college-bound!
It was a great day for our school pathway and community—thank you to all of the scholars who participated!
